Dear Margie,
Thank you for your message. I am so pleased that you enjoyed my article! Torakina is manmade. It was built together with the breakwater in the 60s (I am sorry but I do not have the exact date). The roadbridge across the Brunswick was built to transport the building materials to the beach; if you find the date for the roadbridge, you'll have Torakina's birthday as well. Frank Mills is a lovely gentleman and local historian that I found unbelievably helpful. If you need more specific information, try looking for his publications or call Brunswick tourist office for his contact details. He spoke at Old & Gold a few years ago and I am sure that the tourist office would be able to track him down. I hope this helps a bit. Kind regards, Maurizio

Thoroughly enjoyed your take on Brunswick Heads. Brunz is fast becoming one of my favourite places in the Shire. What i'm trying to find out is when the breakwater came into being - and Torakina beach - was it always there? Was the little island there near the bridge always there? - If you could help or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
kind regards margie

Dear Marian, Thank you so much for dropping by and taking the time to comment and thank you for highlighting your Hip Pocket story. I liked it very much. Murwillumbah is indeed the kind of place where this kind of syncronicity is possible. Warm regards, Maurizio

Lovely post and images that really capture Hip Pocket. Speaking of places and things of beauty this link refers to books of beauty found in Hip Pocket http://stoneletters.wordpress.com/2011/12/22/ulysses-joyce-and-the-book-typography-of-ernst-reichl/

I am the writer along the corridor described in the post as 'a mentoring service for writers'. There was unanticipated synergy for me ending up near Hip Pocket. I recently had a story published in a New York literary travel anthology and it features work by Tom Wolfe whom you mention and several other authors that Elliot stocks at Hip Pocket. Murwillumbah is the kind of place where this would happen.

Enjoyed the article about interview with Nano Stern... He certainly is a passionate musician. I have just returned from the Cygnet Festival, where Nano Stern again poured out his brand of music to the masses. With the "Ethno in Transit" band this time (2010 Cygnet - he performed and appeared with various other artists, Kavisha Mazzzella, Martije Solce and in solo) - and always connects with audiences, shares stories, and displaying his passion... We can connect with that passion while not actually understanding Spanish - but to get more from Nano's heartwarming and passionate style either I am going to learn Spanish, or, he could sing in Spanish and English! I'd hate him to not sing in Spanish, but would feel more included with some English singing, so that I will get full meaning in those songs. Now that Nano is spending so much time in Australia, I am hoping he may "think" occasionally in English, and maybe "find" some English in his passionate songwriting.
